Match report F&HCC won the toss and asked to Basildon to bat. The toss was won by vice skipper Steve Greene as I was still en-route with our 11th man. At 75 -1 after 26 overs Basildon looked well set for a good total. However Uncle Yaz had other ideas with a fine spell of bowling of 4 for 49 off 17 overs. Wickets kept tumbling as Basildon attempted to accelerate up to 220 a par score. In the end to bowl out Basildon for 180 was a fine achievement given the fast outfield. The U13s skipper Chris Campbell was also a fine pick with 2 for 37 off 8 overs. Clearly one for the future. Picking U13 colts is a good policy given the quality of this side

In reply F&HCC were soon in trouble at 30 for 3. The normal opening partnership of Yaz and Clive Franklin then came to the wicket to steady the ship. A partnership of 77 off 11 overs turned the game around. Uncle Yaz scored 34 in 31 balls. Clive Franklin then took to the total through to 140 when he departed thanks to a spectacular one handed catch on the boundary. It is important to point out that Clive's 59 runs (incl . 11 x 4s) came in 66 balls. Without the pressure of having Chris Rotsey pacing the boundary looking nervous he seemed to bat with total fluency. The responsibiity of being the skipper clearly suits him. Simon
Mc Kay then rolled back the years with a quality 39* assisted by Kevin Campbell (dad of Chris). 183 for 5 in 39 overs was a fine reply.
