Hornchurch 5th X1 v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 12 Aug 2006 at 1:30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 5 wkts
Match report
In the not so delightful surrounds of Hainault Rec, heavy drizzle, near gale force winds and a changing room apparently uplifted from Auschwitz, lifting team morale proved difficult. Hornchurch won the toss and opted top take first use of a mottled park pitch from which Moshin and Chris Campbell extracted interesting and variable lift. After Moshin's third delivery neatly bisected 1st and 2nd slip the next flew staright to Aqeel in his first match for nearly a year and was safely pouched. This was to be Fives last success for a couple of hours as two Hornchurch youngsters rode thier luck and took numerous blows to body and helmet. An eventual total of 229-5 looked well within reach given three short boundaries as Fives had bowled their overs reasonably quickly and would likely have more than 50 overs available. After the openers had perished, one to a lifter and one to a shooter, a mixture of block and slog by Aqeel and the Skipper took Fives past the 110 mark with 25 overs to get 117. Although the Commander perished to floaty yorker the Uncle/Nephew combination of Yaz and Haroon worked steadily towards the target before cutting loose as the rain intensified. With Masher Moshin waiting eagerly on the boundary to repeat his enormous six-hitting exploits and beat the rain, the increasing fluency and improvisation of Yaz and Haroon meant the last 83 were made in only 9 overs leaving Moshin's ambitions to await another day.
