Needing wins to stand any chance of promotion Fives unfortunately lost the toss and were put in to bat on a wet wicket. A cautious early start by Clive and Yaz on a tricky pitch avoided early disasters but after a couple of wickets Haroon and the Skipper stepped up the scoring rate dramatically. Following the skipper's departure to one that stopped and lifted Haroon entertained with regular excursions a long way down the wicket to the slowest bowler ayone can remember since the late Brian Robson of Laindon Taverners. Some of these walks resulted in meaty fours to leg while many more resulted in yorkers being pushed back. There was a disappointing subsiding of the tail such that Fives not only missed 200 but even failed to get 175.

Needing to exert great pressure to defend a below par score on a drier and easier wicket, Fives' masterly misers Maddo and Uncle Yaz bowled superby with the old ball. They were well supported in the field with U13 Chris Campbell deserving special mention. Although one wicket fell early a long and stubborn stand ensued with high quality bowling being countered by sound defensive batting. After 26 overs the score was barely 50 and Fives had control of the game. Good spells by Haroon, Chris Campbell and Moshin, all of whom bowled really well. chipped away at Chingford's middle order with the wickets shared around. The re-introduction of Uncle Yaz with his habitually straight bowling brought a couple more wickets but in the end Chingford just managed to hang on for a draw through 54 overs of high quality Fives bowling. Uncle Yaz's remarkable figures 17 overs 9 maidens 3 for 18 were a true reflection of an oustanding bowling performance.
