Match report A sunny Sunday at Valentines Park greeted us for the first Nasser Hussain of the ‎season. A strong Ilford team batted first and Fives made an early breakthrough ‎when Umar caught Nabeel for one run. A good partnership then followed from the ‎home side which came to an end when Umar cleaned bowled their Captain ‎Salman during an excellent spell of fast bowling. Ilford continued to score at a good ‎rate aided unfortunately by a plethora of wides and no balls from the Fives attack. ‎Despite this, wickets from Nick and Ashish and good team fielding looked like ‎keeping Ilford to a low score until some late boundaries took them up to159 off of ‎their 25 overs.‎

Fives started badly losing two early wickets and scoring only 6 runs after three ‎overs. Umar and Rahul then came together and straight away they set about the ‎home attack with gusto with Umar in particular striking the ball easily to the ‎boundary as well as defending the good balls and rotating the strike. Rahul as ‎usual was the lynchpin of the innings starting slowly but accelerating later on. ‎Umar reached a well deserved 50 but was caught soon after. Rahul then took over ‎and together with George put Fives in a winning positing needing a run a ball in the ‎last 4 overs. After George was run out, a young inexperienced tail was exposed ‎which left Fives needing 8 off the last over. With only one wicket remaining, 9 year ‎old Viraj came in to support Rahul who managed to find the boundary leaving the ‎scores level with one ball left to play. With the field trying to save the single Rahul ‎smashed the ball over mid-wicket to the boundary to win the match.‎

The most exciting match of the season, and a good start in the competition for ‎Fives.‎
