Once again, Fives won the toss and elected to bat. with tight bowling from the Harlow opening bowlers on a tough batting track, Fives were restricted to 79 for 1 from 20 overs with 9 wickets in hand. Fives began to increase the run rate until Jake Poulter was bowled for 43 from 62 deliveries. Hugo Blogg (on his birthday) was looking comfortable and he brought up his 50 from 87 balls before becoming D.Perry's second victim for a well made 60, leaving Fives on 127 from 30 overs. Ross Vasani and Rohan Quereshi then chipped in with a partnership of 36 runs between them. Fives finally got to 187 runs from their allocated 40 overs, which seemed like an above par score .
After a downpour of rain at tea, Fives entered the field satisfied, after a decent batting performance. Rahul and Jake opened the bowling and found it hard with wet run ups. however, as the outfield dried Fives piled on pressure until 84 runs were needed in the last 10 overs, with 5 wickets in hand. With some good bowling from Joe Samuel and Ross Vasani, it looked as though Fives had strangled the Harlow batting line up as they needed 12 an over. George Kenny gave Harlow a glimmer of hope as he began hitting to all areas of the ground, reaching his 50. However, this was too little too late and Harlow were left stranded on 169 after 40 overs. A special mention to 13 year old Henry Ochieng who bowled five crucial overs at the death against batsman who were well in but could not get him away. A future star in the making.
This was a pleasing performance by Fives considering we had a very young side with many players missing. Fives go into the quarter finals as leaders of the whole Matchplay competition. Well done boys, keep it going!
