Match report On an overcast, miserable day Fives won the toss and went to field. Wickets fell easily and quickly for the Fives bowlers until Ilford were starting to sturggle with their middle order coming into bat after just 20 overs. Terry Ballard, however, wiped out their middle order with a hatrick destorying M. Fayyaz, A. Hassan and M. Malik in an triple wicket maiden over leaving Ilford stranded on 99-7 from just 27 overs. Stunning elderly bowler J. Mordrick came in for the kill with Ilfords last 3 batsmen not scoring a run between them with the one star batter being V. Chopra on 58* having batted all the way through the 33.3 overs needed by Fives to eliminate the Ilford side.
At first the Fives opening batters made it seem that the massive total of 104 runs off a minimum of 86 overs was going to be far too hard for them with fives on 2-3 off 6 overs having lost D. Stevens, S. Fitzgerald and J. Swash for not very many. However, solid bat G. Edwards came in and stuck it out providing a solid 27* back bone for the other Fives batters to rely on. R. Bhome provided good support but once again Fives batters struggled in the very slightly worsening weather, leaving Fives at 57-6 when rain stopped play and tea was taken. However, T. Ballard looking to add to his hatrick and for support to become captain next year came in and hit a superb 16* with G. Edwards to bring Fives within reach of a much needed 20 points to bring them off the bottom of the table. The points were not to be, indecision on the umpires parts and an unwillingness to play for a probable defeat on Ilfords part meant that play was not resumed for Fives to continue to bat and rain stopped play leaving the Fives batters on 74-6 in a strong position for another win but kept out of their grasp by English weather.
