Match report After losing the toss on the hottest day of the year so far, Fives were sentanced to the best part of three hours in the field. As the openening bowlers wilted under a blistering West Indian attack on a superb track, a total of 250+ seemed certain but the early introduction of Delboy Maddison restored some order and with John Walters finding a good line and length coupled with decent pace at the other end Stow were gradually restrained. While Derek trundled his way through 24 consecutive overs at one end (requiring him to take a week's holiday in Spain to recover) rotation of seamers at the other end prevented Stow settling and they ended well below par at 189-8 off 52. In reply Fives were indebted to Nick Rotsey, dragged away from his revision on the understanding he was only to bat for 40 minutes, for a brisk start. Nick made his 50 in quick time and left the field to take up his Chemistry books, leaving his aged father to take up the challenge. However, the introduction of two good leggies getting turn and bounce slowed the proceedings right down and removed 3 key middle order wickets. This brought together last week's heroes, Maddison and Nash, who again batted very capably. While they were together a win remained possible but after Derek's departure, rapidly followed by John Walters, Tim rightly decided to settle for denying Stow the win which would have brought them level with us in the League. Very ably supported by Mark Speller's customary impregnable defence, Tim got us past the 175 for a third bonus point and an honourable draw.
