Match report Fives won the toss and took first use of another superb strip at Old Chigs. A steady start was provided by Townsend and Franklin with the first 7 overs yielding 15 for the loss of Clive. Andrew Dongworth, freshly returned from Uni, joined Kev for another 20 overs of attrition taking the score to 67 - 2 just after the halfway point and making the required 200 seem far off. The skipper set a target of 80-85 by the 30th over and 200+ at 52. The entry of U14 Adrian Palmer brought a much needed lift to the scoring rate as his uninhibited batting encouraged Kevin to go for his shots. The impetus was maintained by the middle order but only some uncharacteristic slogging by this season's batting heroes Maddison and Nash taking 33 off the last 6 overs enabled Fives to reach their target.
After a wayward first over by Ritchie Charlton he and Mark Speller settled down to bowl very accurately with Mark getting the breakthrough thanks to a smart gully catch by Commander Greene. With Adrian unable to find his usual accuracy Fives turned to the spin twins Speller and Maddison who put a brake on the scoring while chiselling out the middle order. With 7 overs and 4 wickets left Upminster needed 53 to win and Fives were confident of at least holding them to a draw but were undone by Upminster's aging number nine who slogged 28 off 22 balls to see them home by 2 wickets in the last over.
