Fives and Heronians Cricket Club

Upminster v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 16 Aug 2003 at 1.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 75 runs

Match report Having been inserted on a dodgy looking track Fives were reduced to 31-2 off 10 before an excellent stand of 76 between Greene and Palmer in 19 overs built a platform for Greenie and the ancient Rotsey to put on 79 in 10 overs proving that the apparent devils in the wicket weren't there at all. A closure on 223 - 6 off 46 overs left Upminster a generous 57 overs. Having seen some turn, Fives stared with the old ball. Leading wicket taker Bob Speller opened up and in the absence of spin twin Delboy Maddison found a new partner, Alan Rotsey in his first match for a year. Accurate bowling by both kept the run rate below 2 an over until the 14th over before the Upminster number 3 slogged a few on the leg side. While Alan suffered from 3 dropped catches Bob bowled three consecutive wicket maidens including getting the slogger who had made 45 out of 56 for 4. Stubborn resistance prompted the taking of the new ball and a fiery but unlucky spell from John Walters. Veteran Club President Peter Mears performed his well known role as a partnership breaker before Bob was recalled to polish off the tail with a spell of 3 for 10 in two overs to finish with outstanding figures of 8 for 45 to keep Fives in second place in the League.
