Match report A real team performance saw Fives and Heronians win by 30 runs in the first group game of the Jeff Rodriquez trophy at Monkhams Lane on Sunday.
Woodford Wells won the toss and asked Fives to bat. James Sibley did not last too long after getting a descent delivery. Joe Samuel and Jake Poulter set about building a foundation against some disciplined bowling. After Joe was out Gary Norris and Jake started to take the initiative and move the score along, Jake retired for 30 and Gary Norris was out for 29. This brought Steve Adcock and Will Samuel together in a lively partnership. Will Samuel batted superbly playing some lovely cover drives, before retiring on 30,he certainly looks a good player on this evidence. Jake returned and upped the anti to get us to 190 from 40 overs, Jake finishing on 53 not out.

A superb bowling and fielding effort from Fives saw them strangle the Wells reply before some late hitting from Schofield gave the Wells a glimmer of hope. Fives bowled the wells out for 160, with notable performances from Ali, Joe and Mark Wheeler; it was also good to see James Sibley bowl a few over’s for the first time in a few months. Everyone contributed in some way in what was a very competitive game against one of our big rivals.
