A strong team saw Fives and Heronians triumph by nine wickets on Sunday at the Paddock in the second game of the Jeff Rodriques trophy.
West Essex won the toss and elected to bat, from ball one fives strangled the opposition with a disciplined line and length from all the bowlers. Due to a cloud burst and thunder and lightning the teams took an early tea with West Essex 85 for 6 with six over’s remaining. West Essex at the end of their 40 over’s managed to get to 135. Nine bowlers were used.
Fives were soon in full flow with the bat as Kish and Joe took the attack to West Essex, Kish retired for 30 with the score on 43 before Jake came to the crease and after a watchful start smashed a few boundary’s as he also retired. Another cloud burst stopped Gary Edwards who was in full flow with 12 off five balls. After the rain Fives set about knocking the remaining 20 runs off. Joe retired and with 5runs required Gary Edwards was bowled for 27 which left Hugo and Norro to knock off the runs to win by 9 wickets with about 10 over’s remaining.
