With both sides looking for their first victory of the campaign this match was always going to be hard fought. Ilford batted first and wickets were hard to find. With the score standing at 39 the first wicket fell in the fifth over to Daniel. With only one more wicket falling - caught and bowled David - Ilford finished the innings leaving Fives needing 99 to win. Daniel and Jack opened and were both unlucky in their dismissals. Daniel being run out in a dead ball misunderstanding for 7 and Jack - also run out - for 8. Malveer and Isaru next formed a steady partnership, Isaru being caught for 16. At this point the game was finely poised. David was next in hitting a six first ball being run out a couple of overs later for 7. Ram was last in and was unfortunate to be bowled first ball. With two overs remaining and Malveer last man standing Fives needed 26 to win and victory looked very unlikely. However, Malveer was undaunted by the task in hand and went on to produce a magnificent performance against Ilfords best bowlers. He single handedly reached the necessary total finishing in style with a six from the penultimate ball of the game - his fourth of the innings - finishing with a total of 51. Fives finished with a total of 102. Well done Fives for their first victory and special thanks to Malveer our man of the match.
