Match report Fives fielding a mixed side of 3 regular players, 2 from the B team and Harry Allen from the U11 went down to a 30 run defeat in a game played in 'difficult' circumstances (Tuesday indoor has proved problematic in terms of getting sides/oppositions not turning up) but this game wasplayed in an excellent spirit by both sides.
The focus from the outset was to let the regular players do the bulk of the bowling and batting. In the field, there was concentration from all players, people walking in with the bowler and people backing up throws, some of they key basics but which all make a difference. The pick of the bowlers was a very intense and highly charged Louis Penner, who sent down the last over of their innings without conceeding a single wide (whereby you have to bowl the extra ball again, whereas in overs 1-11 you dont), which is a rarity in colts cricket. Jack Dennis (b team) was very alert in the field and saved a good few boudaries. The catch of the game was by George Neale who caught a thunderbolt just infront of the crowd of parents against the back wall.
Batting wise, the guys in the main struggled against a strong bowling side. Louis again was the stand out bastsman. Jack (40 odd) helping the team out got us up in the 90s with a few overs to go but a last wicket run out between him and Billy put paid to any heroic victory thoughts. In fairness anything other than an Old Parks win, would not have been right as on the night Old Parks were the better collective unit.
