Match report Fives lost the toss and were inserted on a very poor cricket wicket at Gloucester Park. Inadequate preparation had produced a cracked pitch with a surface 1 cm deep moving on the layer below. Following the hard bouncy wicket the previous week Fives batters found trouble adjusting to the variable (low or lower) bounce and were dismissed for 73 from 32 overs with only Vinay looking comfortable.

Because of the vagaries of the pitch, Fives were hopeful that an early breakthrough would allow them to create pressure. An excellent low slip catch by Maddo of Uncle Yaz meant Upminster were 8 for 1 off 6 overs and although wickets kept falling, a couple of dropped catches and several ariel shots dropping into vacant areas meant Fives were unable to press home their good start. Mention must go to Moshin first for playing an unaturally restrained innings and secondly for an excellent spell of bowling, repeatedly shaving the bat and stumps without much luck but still ending with 4-24 off 12 overs.
