Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won By 13 runs

Match report On a boiling hot day Fives were lucky enough to win the toss and bat. James Sibley opened with Richard Tootell. On a wicket of varied bounce, James was unlucky to get a ball that kept low which bowled him and put us on the back foot, Jake Poulter and Richard (23) took the score to 40 before Richard played one too many aggressive shots and was caught and bowled. Graham Sibley (19) making his first appearance of the season batted sensibly with Jake and took the score to 100 before he was bowled. Jake continued to play sensibly and finally brought up his maiden century before departing for 109. James Edwards made a quick fire 38 and with that Fives got to 234-8 off their allocated 35 overs.
South Woodford got off to a flying start and with 14 overs gone they had 100 on the board. Fives occasionally picked up wickets but South Woodford seemed to have the game firmly under control. George Neale came on to bowl in his first adult game and got a wicket fifth ball and this helped to change the game as Fives started to exert some pressure. Steve Poulter removed the two middle order batters who had twenty odd each and after that South Woodford did not have a lot to offer and finished up all out for 221, George getting the final wicket to finish with 2 for 19 off 2.4 overs and the captain 3 for 2 off 2 overs. Thanks to all the guys that helped out at the last minute. It was good to play with Brian Berkin again after all these years as well as Roger Braithwaite and Andy Edwards. A good game of cricket with Fives and Heronians coming out on top when it looked odds on for a definite loss.
