Match report Fives and heronians U13 had another comfortable victory against Old Parkonians in their Len Stentiford trophy first group game .
Winning the toss we batted first but openers Buttleman and Samuel quickly found the pitch quite tough to play with the ball coming up sharply off a length .
The boys both knuckled down though against some decent seam bowling and added 52 for the first wicket with the classy Buttleman departing for 23 . Left hander Cayir came in and carried on building the pace of the innings with skipper Harry . The very long boundaries meant the boys had to run well and of particular note was when they ran four to a samuel on -drive . Cayir was stumped on 19 and samuel retired with a dogged 30 , a good effort considering he was hit on the chin and helmet trying to play forward !
With Fives on 90 for 2 it was left to debutant Dan Stone and isuru gama to help the innings close on 122 for 4 .
Overall we found out what a fine effort it was with the bat as it was about a 100 run pitch . A super piece of fielding by Cayir got our first wicket , grounding a hard sliced drive off Harry he threw to run out the non striking batsman who had backed up too far . We then fell into the same trap of sleepiness in the field with dropped catches and general poor concentration but from around the 10th over and with parks on target with 60 for 1 , we improved dramatically and showed what a good side we are once we can get ahead in the game .
A super run out by U12 Charles Allen started a succession of wickets falling including a fine caught and bowled by Buttleman , 3 fine overs from Tom Kelsey and another 4 run outs in all bowling Old Parks out for 101 .
Another fine win for the fives boys well done .
