Match report Fives and Heronians under 18’s produced another good all round display to finish top of their league with their fourth win in four games to progress to the semi-final. Winning the toss Fives got off to a solid start before Pete and Hugo opened their shoulders to produce an opening partnership of 90. Pete was out playing on for a fluent 54. Hugo then took over and went from 44 to 83 in about 12 deliveries passing 1000 runs for the season, before going for another big hit and getting bowled. Will Joe Rohan and Arjun all ran well between the wickets in the last few overs to get the score to a respectable 171-6 from 20 overs.
Loughton openers then smashed the ball to all parts of the ground to move to 54 off five overs before Ali got the break through with a well-disguised slower ball. Jake and Ali both bowled very tightly going for 51 runs between them off eight overs whilst picking up five important wickets. The last few overs fives had the game under control and eventually ran out winners by 35 runs. Joe Samuel bowled very well on his comeback but suffered a recurrence of his back injury which looks to have finished his season. The fielding was good and the attitude great as Loughton really put us under the cosh early on but the boys got stuck in, kept pegging away did not let their heads drop, eventually won the game.
Let’s hope we can produce another good performance to get us to the final which I believe is under the lights at Chelmsford. COYF
