Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost by 6 runs

Match report The opening game of the season was a decent run out for the lads although alot of familiar faces from the 2nd XI were missing. Fives managed to restrict Hertford to 170 from their allotted overs with all of the Fives bowlers bowling impressively.

Special mention must go to John Walters who played his first game in two years and bowled impressively, and also to Zain Iqbal for taking a fantastic catch in the outfield to dismiss the oppositions top scorers.

The Fives innings got off to a bad start with the fall of an early wicket, and wickets continued to fall with all of the batters getting themself out via bad shots! The ony person not to fall into that classic old Fives trap was Zain, who was bowled by a yorker............... on the second bounce! UNLUCKY!

The regular fall of wicket led the runrate to rise slowly but surely throughout the innings. The responsibility of seeing the innings home was left on the shoulders of the new 2nd XI captain, who tried in vain to see the team home.

Early season rustiness prevented Shoab from putting balls away that could and should have been dispatched to the boundary!

The innings finished with Fives finishing 6 runs short of the Hertford score!
Not a winning start, but a decent run out for all of the lads with just about everyone getting a bat and bowl.

Hopefully, we will get all of the indiscretions out of the way for the start of the league season! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!
