Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Sunday Club XI v Kingstonian on Sun 16 Sep 2007 at 1.00pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 7 wickets
Match report
Fives lost the toss and were inserted on a typical paddock road. Things didn't quite go to plan as we found ourselves 13 for three and then 28 for 4. Enter the captain and Rob Allum to steady the ship and put on a record 188 for the 5th wicket. Rotsey notching up 118 and Rob 'Jack Bauer' Allum 69. A few late lusty blows from Chalky saw us up to a very respectable 251 from our 40 overs.
Another fantastic tea from Mrs Beckett got the energy levels back up for a stint in the field. We got off to a fantastic start with their opening bat guiding the ball perfectly into the captain's hands at third slip. This then brought in the player who last year blasted 180* after surviving very good caught behind and LBW appeals.
Roger's mixture of inners and outers had him bamboozled and edged twice to first slip without being pouched. The turning point in the match had to be when he was cutting well away from him body and there was a MASSIVE noise and appeal when Jacko caught it. This was adjudged not out and he was on 17 at the point. He went on to score 103 in 69 balls before skying a catch of Beckett to be caught out.
This brought N. Malik to the crease who was by far and a way their best player. Slick in the outfield, useful bowler and classy batsman. Very early on in his innings their umpire turned down an incredibly close LBW shout from JK which hit him on the toe, on the crease. The broad grin on the batsman's face said it all as he knocked 57 in 44 balls to win Kingstonian the match with 9 balls to spare.
Fives battled hard right through to the end and obviously came of bitterly disappointed. Not so much at the way we played but at the manner of defeat in a close season Sunday friendly fixture.
