Match report Fives and Heronians hosted Westcliff-on-Sea in the eighth round clash of the Essex second division where victory would mean positive signs ahead and a big second half of the season.
Westcliff batted first and Greg Summer struck with the new ball, a peach of a delivery that sent Weller's pegs flying. Kay also bowled well before Kilpatrick came on to bag the wicket of Curtis.
With Fives looking good, special guest and artist Caroline Zimmerman made her presence felt. Commissioned to produce a painting of the club, Zimmerman was eager to capture in-play action on stills to supply the inspiration for the piece.
S Knapman (offie) dropped one short and new batsman Lewis Groves pulled the ball towards the short boundary, Zimmerman was tracked by the ball and although managing to get the shot, was in danger before aussie pro mick Perry launched in the air and got a strong hand to it, popped out and had another go before it trickled over the boundary. Clubman Doig was no help.
Groves went on to punish the attack in a brutal cameo but the game changed again when promising all-rounder Rikki Laird along with Kay bowled superbly to restrict Westcliff to 222 all out.

The reply was swift, a bit like a hungry polar bear demolishing a wounded yak. Ballard (83) pumped the prime and it was soon all but over, Aussie import Mick Perry got excited and attempted to match chianghale and was quite successful. Bradley Knapman, in the mould of Javed Miandad showed how it should be done and Kilpatrick capped off a good all round performance.
Zimmerman and master director John Jopson along with friend and cricket advisor Adam slotted into the ways of Fives and are wishing that F and H once again get back to the glory days of the Platinum generation.
