Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost

Match report Fives lost the toss and were asked to bat against a very keen Loughton side in the first game of the Jeff Rodriques trophy. Fives lost 4 early wickets with only 40 runs on the board. Steve Poulter and Chris Campbell built a sensible partnership to take the score to 150 before Poulter was out for 71,Chris continued to pick up the ones and put the bad ball away before being bowled for a very well made 49. Jack Jerrom helped push the total up to 195-6 from 40 over’s.
Loughton got off to a rapid start with both openers quick to get onto anything loose and took the score up to 43 before the introduction of John Samuels making his come back after 20 years got the break through with a delivery full of experience and passion. He told me he had loosened up Friday morning!
The bowling was shared around and all bowled well, with special mention to the 11 year olds James Sibley, Jake Poulter and Joseph Samuels all putting in great efforts trying to stem the run flow from Loughton batsmen that were well settled.
Loughton passed the Fives total with 5 over’s left with Gareth James making a fine and chanceless 121 not out. A great experience for the boys who performed fantastically well and I am sure if Jeff were around he would have been pleased to see them playing with a smile on their faces.
The next game is against Wanstead 29th July at the Paddock,this will be captained by our President Simon Mckay. Hope to see some of you there
