Match report
A quite beautiful day at the Paddock at one of the best grounds in the whole of Essex. A splendid tea provided by Sarah Mckay, the bar well stocked, it must be every players dream to play in such surroundings.....where are they one is inclined to ask
The solution....feel free to offer any if you are reading this. A few hardened soles have tried and failed this season to coerce players from far afield, some from injury, some from other clubs, some from retirement and even from the grave in the case of much missed stalwarts Len and Arthur
The nightmare began at the toss, with Neil losing for the umpteenth time this season, offers of swapping tossers have yet to be taken up. Bereft of 11 players again albeit we did have 11 players confirmed available at various points during the week although not at the crucial start time on a Saturday afternoon, we huffed and puffed well some did others just hobbled around amongst the carnage of chasing leather with 9 men on a typical flat road with short boundaries for those that have never enjoyed the delights of the Paddock.
The standout performer, the recalled Rob Allum, using all those years of experience with a hop skip and a jump gently enticing the batsmen into a drive before being being snared into snick off. The batsman trudging off muttering to themselves while Rob whistfully wipes his brow on three separate occasions. Rob claiming much deserved figures of 3 for 32 off 9.
The batting, gallant and respectable but never threatening chasing such an imposing total, Rob Allum again to the fore with 64,supported by Jack Dennis with 50
MOM - Rob Allum
Will we get 11 out before the end of the season, will we win a game before the end of the season, will we ever see a season such as this ever again and will the club ever be back in the promised land or the premier league one day.....questions, questions but the answers will only be found on the field of play
500/1 for Fives to stay up this season which is my cue to end this report and get to William Hill
