Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost by 144 runs

Match report With nearly 30 players unavailable this week for various reasons we were only able to get 9 on the pitch. Basildon and Pitsea 3rd team were smarting, having just been demoted from the Premier Division meaning we were always going to be up against it. Our opening attack was a blend of youth end experience as U13 Danny Drennan bowled the first over with great confidence while the venerable Uncle Yaz performed economically from the other end. The bowling was rotated with Malveer bowling economically while Leonard and Joe picked up wickets. After Jag aggravated his arm injury and was unable to bowl his expected overs the aging captain hobbled in off two steps and surprised everyone, especially himself, by picking up three late wickets. Special mention must go to new player John Foster for an outstanding catch on the distant mid-wicket boundary. All the fielders kept going well with 'keeper Adcock picking up a couple of catches and conceding no byes.
Our batting turned out to be somewhat brittle and bar some late hitting by Leonard did not cover itself with glory.
