Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost Ilford 4th

Match report The Academy squad lost the toss and were put in on a wet wicket. While Graham dropped anchor at one end, Arun played some flowing shots before falling in the 6th over. The middle order again suffered a collapse but the innings was rebuilt by Kevin Campbell (the first time he'd picked up a bat for 10 months) supported by Sibley junior. A late flourish by Michael Knapton with a personal best took us tantalisingly close to 200.

In the absence of volunteers to bowl into the wind, Sibley senior was pressed into action and responded with a couple of early wickets. This brought Ilford's best bat to the crease where he smashed Michael's first ball back to him so hard he had to leave the field. The Skipper put this down as a dropped catch - a bit harsh but he did put himself on the finish the over. At the other end, Arun produced his best spell of the season and had taken 4-25 when his glasses fell off in the delivery stride and he managed to tread on them with devastating results. As he could no longer see the batsman, never mind the stupms, he had to retire from the field leaving us one short. This was the turning point as two of Ilford's Essex juniors played very sensibly to take them to a 4 wicket win.

The positives to take from the match were:
- Tidy keeping and a catch for Ronnie
- Excellent economy bowling from Manraj
- Kevin Campbell's spritied batting
- Arun's wicket-taking bowling
... and not least, 8 League points
