Match report On the hottest day of the year, Fives won the toss and batted on a hard surface with enough grass to keep the seamers interested. Robbie unfortunately got a good leg stump yorker early on and the middle order struggled against some very good bowling from top of the table Loughton. The aging skipper watched from one end as Fives were reduced to 84 for 6 in the 21st over. Just as he was flagging from the heat Steve Poulter (who hadn't wanted to bat - just bowl a few overs and watch Jake) strolled in and offered support and encouragement. After drinks Steve took charge, playing with great authority and, well supported by the tail, added 62 for the last three wickets to get us past 200.

While this target was unlikely to be enough Fives were taken aback by the ferocity of Loughton's Nali who took 21 from James Sibley's opening over. Steve bowled his "few overs" very effectively from the other end and was unlucky not to pick up a couple of wickets. James improved after his opening over and Manraj again demonstrated the virtues of line and length ending up conceding only 12 runs from his 6 overs. The spinners, Jag and Irfan, both caused problems and picked up a wicket each but in the end a young fielding side suffering from tiredness and dehydration could not keep Loughton from a well earned victory.
