Match report Unfortunately Fives lost the toss and were inserted by draw specialists Hornchurch. In the team talk, the captain set the team a target of 235 in 35 overs which would leave 50 overs to winkle out the blockers. After the early departure of Uncle Yaz a good platform was laid by Uriel, 73, and Latif who batted with more aggression than usual before being stumped in pursuit of quick runs. Awais entered with full licence to bat in his natural very aggressive style and reached 50 off 29 balls before departing caught on the boundary off the last ball of the 37th over.
Despite being set a very reasonable target of 5 an over on a flat pitch with a fast outfield, Hornchurch set out to block from ball one. After 10 overs they had raced to 8 for no wicket against a very attacking field. Portia broke the stand with a perfectly pitched leg break but the Barnacle (by name and inclination) father and son partenrship continued to defy the numerous bowling changes with 10 bowlers being tried. After Uriel removed the younger Barnacle we managed to chip away at the batting line up, but a dropped catch and missed run out cost us the win. The captain was left to reflect that an earlier declaration would have been a better decision.
