Upminster v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI on Sat 07 Aug 2004 at 1.30
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost 6 wkts

Match report Put in to bat on a very hot day Fives got off to a good start of 36 for the first wicket in 9 overs against a swinging ball on a pitch of variable bounce. Thereafter, wickets fell steadily as most batsmen made a start but nobody pushed on beypong Raggie's top score of 25. The collapse of the last three wickets for one run in the pace of five balls was disappointing when 10 were needed for another two batting points. The Upminster response to a modest total was held in check by some excellent bowling from Bob Speller, back to his best form with 5 of his first 8 overs being maidens, and Alan Rotsey, with the first 15 overs yeiding only 25 runs and the edge of the bat being passed on countless occasions. The opening stand slowly rose to 62 off 28 overs before a superb one handed catch at cover point by Aqeel brought some reward for sustained pressure. With no time constraints Upminster were able to grind on and despite 3 good wickets in two spells by Maddo the result was never in doubt.
