Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Sunday Cup XI v Walthamstow on Sun 04 Jul 2004 at 1-00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 6 wickets
Match report
A reasonably strong Fives side overwhelmed a very weak Walthamstow side who disapointingly decided to bat first when they won the toss in spite of their obvious inferiority (their side had probably 7 players under the age of 14). This resulted in a long and tedious session in the field for Fives who bowled 58 overs in 2 and 3/4 hours while Walthamstow limped painfully to 175 all out (in spite of neither their batting nor their bowling adding up to that many in their book!!). The star of the show for Fives was Sooty who followed his 5 for yesterday with 6-59 today though the typically disgraceful Wlathamstow umpiring robbed him of even more wickets. One day someone will explain to me how a batsman who is standing squared up in front of his stumps being hit on the shin is not out ... I await this day with anticipation. Never-the-less, Fives set about chasing their target with great confidence and knocked off the runs in just 41 overs which was lucky as Walthamstow had batted on so long we were only due to receive 43 back. Adrian Palmer opened the batting and played in a very classy and controlled manner to end up 64 not out and JT was simply relieved not to be hit about the body after last week's peppering!! All in all a very comfortable victory.
