Match report A relatively strong Fives side went to Takeley hoping for a more even match than last year's encounter. An entertaining 44 from Gary Hanna was followed by a long and well constructed partnership between the 14 year olds Daniel Hanna and Jeremy Waller who both played very well and kept up a good scoring rate. Daniel was eventually run out just short of a deserved 50 but this only served to bring Nick to the crease. With only about 25 mins left until tea and short boundaries on offer he wasted little time in setting about the bowling in his customary manner. 8 sixes and 5 fours later we declared on 243-4 with Jeremy Waller finally getting to his 50 having wrested the strike back from Nick, but not until Nick had made 84. This was always going to be a big ask for Takeley but few of their batsmen made much of an effort to chase down the total despite much slow bowling and lots of fielders in catching positions leaving large spaces to hit into. Saul was particularly amused to find himself bowling to 4 slips and a gully early on! Wickets fell periodically and special mention must go to young Reece Hanna who was at one point on a hatrick after bowling two of their top order in consecutive balls, he again bowled extremely well for someone so young! Unfortunately we could not quite nick out the last wicket, though had we not had to have a drinks break in the middle of the last hour (!!) we may have got an extra couple of overs which was probably all we would have needed. Still some entertaining cricket was played and we are looking forward to a home fixture next week!
