Match report This was an interesting game with performances ranging from the sublime to the completely ridiculous but which unfortunately ultimately failed to produce a result. An early batting collapse by Fives on a wicket which had seen 540 runs the previous day left us on 30-3 and 72-4 against a pretty weak bowling attack. A fifth wicket stand of 149 in 17 overs between the skipper and JT, who made his first fifty of the year a big one by reaching three figures, got Fives to 221 in just 37 overs (though the extremely pedestrian over rate of Little Hallingbury meant this took 2 hours 20 mins!). In reply the Little Hallingbury openers had no answer to the terrifying Fives new ball pairing of Adam Peters and Nick Rotsey, though for idfferent reasons. Adam's first ball failed to land on the cut strip and passed wide of a terrified JT at second slip, and many of his first few overs followed a similar pattern. Nick on the other hand was nipping the ball away from the batsmen who seemed unable to make contact. A change to introduce Mark Hutchinson produced a wicket in a very good first spell and the introduction of spin at first one, then both ends soon got the scoring rate motoring along as 10 fours were hit in 13 balls! The return of Nick as a 'slow'(er) bowler at first produced nothing but leg side deliveries but he suddenly discovered that bowling a wuicker ball somewhere near straight was about all he needed to do to get a wicket. Having missed one opportunity for a hattrick he converted his second effort finishing with the somewhat unbelievable figurs of 6-29 from 15 overs! Mark Hutchinson came back at the end for some more excellent overs but Fives were just unable to pick up the last couple of wickets.
