Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v Clayhall on Sat 21 Sep 2019 at 12:15
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won by 26 runs
Match report
The 4th team saved one of their best all round performances of 2019 for the last game of the season, a friendly at The Paddock against recently-formed Clayhall CC. Skillfully led by Uncle Yaz (perhaps rehearsing for taking over the captaincy full time next year,) F&H opening bats faced probably the strongest bowling attack they had met all summer. Uriel and Latif, the two best bats in the team, departed in short order before Uncle Yaz and Kev (in only his second outing of the summer) put up very stubborn resistance. After their departure, Awais played his best innings of the summer, restraining at least a part of his natural aggression and mixing it with sound judgement to make 49 off just 38 balls. This was followed by Raza's excellent 39 out of a partnership of 82 with the skipper which virtually doubled the score. The skipper hung around with the tail to add another 20 taking us to a below par (for the Paddock) 197 all out.
Clayhall set off at a good lick and it seemed as if it would be all over quite quickly, but Yaz rang the bowling changes very well and we clawed our way back into the game. Uriel was the pick of the bowlers, ably supported by U13 Colts Lucas and Rayn. Uncle Yaz finally brought himself on to bowl and cleaned out their skipper with 2 balls left to secure the win.
The Clayhall team were friendly throughout, playing in a good spirit, and we hope to arrange friendlies against them next year outside the League seasons. Thanks are due to Tony Clarke for umpiring this match, and to Angela and Gill for scoring and doing the teas throughout the season.
