Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won by 11 Runs

Match report Fives won the toss and batted first on a good batting pitch, but Neil Braithwaite was given out caught behind in the third over. A stand then took fives to 72 before Chris Campbell was then out caught behind and the skipper soon followed. Carlos Remy then batted entertainingly hitting the ball all around the ground and reached 35 before being out to an excellent catch in the deep. There was then a middle order collapse and Fives looked in trouble at 118 for 6, before Jack Jerrom took the game by the scruff of the neck, hitting some huge sixes and reached an excellent 42 before being bowled. Kevin Campbell and Nick Allum put another good stand together scoring very valuable runs taking Fives to 227 and giving the team a good total to bowl at.

Hornchurch batted cautiously but effectively and were looking very dangerous when Adita caught and bowled the opener with the score at 59. The game ebbed and flowed and could have gone either way and became quite tense as Fives struggled to take wickets. Hornchurch kept edging closer to Fives total, but the variety of bowling enabled Fives to stop the batsmen becoming too settled and the occasional breakthroughs proved to be just enough. All the Fives bowlers performed well but Adita Banerjee bowled outstandingly well with 2 for 18 off eight overs taking wickets at crucial times, well supported by Carlos. I must mention an outstanding run out by Carlos with a direct hit from the deep, which again kept the pressure on Hornchurch, The game was played in excellent spirit between both teams and was a game worthy of being a final. All round an excellent team performance by Fives winning the Jeff Rodriques trophy for the first time.
