Hutton v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 13 Jun 2009 at 1 pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Fives and Heronians secured their 3rd SNEL win of the season in week 6 with a resounding victory against Hutton at the Polo Field on Saturday.

Terry Ballard’s decision to bowl first proved a excellent choice with the early wicket of Morgan, caught behind by Jason Whiting off Jamie Porter.

The next pairing of Hugh O’Dell and David Hammond steadied the ship with 70 until Ballard brought himself into the attack, O’Dell pulled a leg-side long-hop to fine-leg and Jamie Porter dived forward to take a remarkable catch to turn the match in Parks favour.

Carlos Remy then produced a superb 12 over spell in collecting 3-49 (inc. 3 maidens) as Hutton fell to 100-5 as he had Hammond well caught by Gordon Whorlow at 1st slip for 33, James Paterson lbw for 10 and then produced another edge from Stuart Torr’s bat straight into Whiting’s gloves for 0.

Hutton captains past (Simon Thurston with 44) and present (Chris McNally – 38) led the hosts revival with a stand of 50 for the 6th wicket until Jamie Porter returned to the attack to bowl both with beautiful slower balls.

Porter collected another wicket to finish with 4-47 off 11 and Rahul Bhome collected the final 2 wickets in finishing with 2-25 off 8 as Hutton were dismissed for 185 from 47 overs.

Jason Whiting then got the visitors off to a flyer in reply by hitting an incredible 71 off 51 balls which included 10 fours and 2 maximums, the 2nd off former Essex staffer Andrew McGarry cleared the pavilion on the short side to bring up his 50 from only 28 deliveries!!!

With run machine Gary Edwards holding anchor at the other end to finish unbeaten on 52, Fives were in control and despite Whiting falling to a stumping at 100-1, Ed Buxton with 45 and then Carlos Remy with a four to win saw The Paddock outfit to a 7 wicket win from only 39 overs.

The result was a good comeback after the Hornchurch defeat and keeps the side 2nd in division one. Next Saturday, Orsett visit The Paddock.
