Jerrom Looks An Exciting Prospect
16 May 2009
On a chilly, blustery overcast afternoon, it was back to reality with the early season English weather. Our first home game came with high expectations after last week’s performance, but looked likely to be disrupted by inclement weather.
Oram the captain, settling in nicely to his new role, won the toss and invited the opposition to bat. Coleman (Reggie) bowled a good probing opening over. Young Jack Jerrom followed his fine performance last week by getting a wicket with his first ball of the match. Whilst Reggie kept it tight at one end, Jerrom, always looking more threatening, picked up another wicket before the end of his mandatory five over spell. This set the tone for the afternoon and some tight bowling by the first change bowlers, McKay & Rotsey (yes Rotsey!) kept Upminster’s batsmen under constant pressure. They were rewarded with a wicket a piece.
The re-introduction of Reggie (in his spinner’s role) and Jerrom brought a swift end to the disappointing Upminster innings of 105 all out in 40 overs. Jerrom was too hot to handle with his pace, movement and bounce he was extracting and Reggie bowled with good control. Jerrom finished with 4 – 32 and Reggie 4 -16.
With a small total to chase, which sometimes proves tricky, Fives & H set about their task confidently and positively through Brathwaite and Palmer. Even though, Fives & H lost 3 wickets in the run chase, Brathwaite 42 n.o. used his experience to guide his side to a comfortable victory in 20 overs.
This was another fine performance all round, with Fives picking up 18 points & Upminster 1 point. At 14 years old Jerrom looks an exciting prospect. We look forward to his continued improvement and success.
