Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Chingford on Sat 23 May 2009 at 1 pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won By 7 Wickets
Match report
Britton Back In The Groove
Fives & Heronians .V. Chingford
23 May 2009
On a beautiful, warm, slightly overcast afternoon, the Paddock with its new white rope and baked white wicket looked magnificent. It looked as if there were plenty runs in it for the batsmen and hard toil for the bowlers.
Oram won the toss and invited Chingford to feast first. However, young Jerrom had different ideas. In his first over, he removed Alston with a classic in-swinger after bowling successive out-swingers, he then took a catch a third man and then ran out there danger man. Coleman then chipped in by clean bowling Patel with the “ball of the day”. This reduced the shocked Chingford to 37- 4. However, they dug deep and made good recovery with a powerfully struck 90 from Hales. He really did tuck in. The introduction of Mckay ended this good innings and prised back the control for Fives. Coleman & Jerrom were then brought back in the latter stages of the innings to sweep away the lower order. Chingford ended on 219 all out. Pick of the bowlers were Coleman 4 – 56 & Jerrom 3 -33.
Fives & H batsmen set about their task in a positive manner. Apps played some breathtaking drives in racing to 45 before being bowled. Great start! 53-1 off seven overs. Britton joined Brathwaite and kept up the momentum before Brathwaite departed for 35. Rotsey then strode to the wicket licking his lips as he eyed the feast before him. Both he and Britton tucked in with some luscious drives and powerful pulls. There was no letting up from the Fives batsmen. When Rotsey departed for 39, Palmer went in to feed on the scraps that were left, ending on 22 not out. Britton batted beautifully and finished on 75 not out. Fives reached their target of 220 with 17 overs to spare.
This was another clinical performance by Fives & H. It could have been better had all catches been held. There is always room for improvement. It’s Great to see Britton back in the groove.
