Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v South Woodford on Sat 23 May 2009 at 1.00 pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report On a baking hot day and with two wins out of two chasing, Fives won the toss and opted to field first again. Within 10 minutes SW found themsleves 5 for 4. (waqash missing out on a hat trick). Waqash, especially bowled with very good control at a lively pace and was unlucky not to pick up more wickets than he did. Fives took 3 more wickets including 1 from left armer chris campbell who bowled good areas without much luck. After drinks Waqash having bowled 14 overs off the reel was replaced by saul before swapping ends to allow for the introduction of glyn harding. Hoops managed to hold onto a return catch off his own bowling which provided fives with a much needed breakthroug as SW 7th wicket had put on a very good partnership to take them to 137.

Unfortunately this then bought SW no.10 to the crease (who transpired was actually the sw 2nd x1 vice skipper). Saul in particular bowled very well in the last 10 overs, as Fives managed to restrict SW to 190 all out, in the 50th over, despite some clever hitting from SW no.10. A good effort on a good batting wicket in humid conditions. Its an important lesson that in premier legaue cricket sides will perhaps have more depth than in division one and we will have to work harder to bowl sides out.

Fives reply wilted under some very good bowling from SW opening 'quickie' who ruffled a few feathers with pace usually seen in 2nd X1 cricket. Having been reduced to 77 for 5 with the last hour looming, Saul and Glynn at first stablised the innings with some very good running, pinching singles and then as SW began to lose their momentum hoops upped the ante and began to unleash some trademark flicks through the leg side as boundaries began to flow. Fives managed to cruise to victory in the end with 4 overs remaining and 5 wickets in hand.

This was a game which ebbed and flowed and where Fives eventually came out on top as deserved winners to maintain their 100% record to the season.
