Match report F & H lost the toss and were inserted on a damp pitch, drying unevenly. An important opening stand of 50 set up an excellent base for the middle order to accelerate with Gurtej crafting a well-made 50 and the skipper an energetic 45 with 2 sixes and 6 fours. The late order batters fared badly with three ducks before Arun came together with Priyesh in a brisk stand for the last wicket taking us to 239, an excellent score on a poor track.

Following a very slow over rate by South Woodford, Fives took the field determined to show how it should be done - lots of energy in the field and great bowling from Shiv, who started with two maidens, and Arun who was less accurate but produced some great devliveries, one of which led to the first of two neat catches by young Rishin behind the stumps. When Samit replaced Arun, Rishin picked up another catch while Dayal senior collected a C & B at the other end. Shiv was eventually rested after 10 overs with 3 for 32 and will doubtless be feeling the stiffness for a few days to come. The spin of Atul and Chris was tried in the middle overs but the only wicket came from a high Bidwell full toss, very ably held by Samit on the deep mid-wicket boundary. There followed some stern resistance by South Woodford's captain and their number 10 who batted better than many of those above him. The return of Arun, bowling with more control in his second spell, shifted the tail with two classic full and straight balls (bowled and lbw) followed by a very sharp catch by Samit, this time at second slip.

This was a really good all round team effort which resulted in our first win of the summer and shows what can be achieved when we have more people making themselves available.
