Match report F & H were put in to bat on another dodgy Hainault Rec strip and tottered to 22 for 3 in the 9th over. Kishen then played some attractive shots and with Haroon in support took the score to 60. The introduction of wily Doug Sheering did for Kishen, Rohan and Manraj despite the skipper's warnings that he would never be as easy to hit as he looked. At 109 for 7 in the 26th over the skipper was joined by 11 year old Rahul who batted with great composure and determination as the quest for batting points and a defensible total went on. Only when the 200 mark had been passed did Rahul's concentration fail but the stand of 102 was a record for the 8th wicket. A very slow Hornchurch over rate meant that only 48 overs had been bowled after 3hrs 28 mins when the declaration came.

Rain started during tea and the entire Hornchurch innings was played in drizzle or rain. As there was no sawdust, footholds were treacherous and the normally accurate Faisal was belted to all parts as Fives rushed to get 25 overs bowled before the rain could cause an abandonment. Good energy in the field meant 20 overs were bowled in the 70 mins before drinks, despite the need for frequent ball drying. Faisal did manage a couple of staright yorkers and finished with the unusual figures of 2 for 75 off 8 overs. Chris Bidwell and Kishen bowled their off spin very effectively despite the conditions with Chris being unlucky not to pick up more than his 2 for 16 off 5. When conditions finally became unplayabe the match was well set up with 41 required from 9 with 5 wickets in hand. A good team effort.
