Match report Fives & Heronians were dumped out of the Conference Cup at the last 16 (3rd round) stage after a heavy loss to SNEL Premier champions Wanstead at The Paddock.

After another won toss by TB, Fives batted first and came up against the Essex staffer Mervyn Westfield who accounted for the run machine Gary Edwards for just 4.

TB fulfilled the pinch-hitting role as opener well with 26 off just 21 balls with 2 sixes – one a lovely flick from Westfield into the next field – as Fives recovered well.

Buxton made 21 before he fell and after Ballard too was out, Rahul Bhome shone for the hosts with a superb display of batting.

Bommer went onto finish unbeaten on 87 from 108 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes with Ben Britton (49) and Nick Rostey (25) providing excellent support.

From a precarious position, Fives ended up closing their allotted 45 overs on 252-6 which was potentially a match winning score.

Jamie Porter then snared visiting skipper Arfan Akram for 17 as the hosts began brightly but Nikunj Velani with a masterful 114, Chris Laas with 52 and some mighty blows from Merv Westfield and Adnan Akram (27 not out each) saw Wanstead to a comfortable 7 wicket win after only 27 overs of the reply.

Despite our campaigns now over in both the Conference and National cups, Fives still have the SNEL League Cup and Cockspur Twenty20 cups left to play for.
