Match report A very good win for Fives U15's Over 40's, after struggling to get a full eleven players together. The highlights being two outstanding batting performances, one for an over 40, Neil Brathwaite, and the other for an U15 Greg Summers. Fives lost the toss but Wanstead decided to bowl first which was good for us. Wanstead bowled well and the opening overs were very tight. So tight that after ten overs there was only 24 runs on the board, after losing Robbie Sheehan in the fourth over. Fives pushed on and were at 86 after twenty overs with a lot of work still to do. Jack Jerrom pushed on with Neil but was stumped for 18. Neil then started to take control and was hitting the ball to all parts of the ground, playing the whole array of shots to reach an excellent hundred well supported by Greg who batted with great maturity. After Greg settled down in the supporting role he then started to cut loose himself, striking the ball all around the ground in a controlled innings. The opposition skipper thought he had run out Greg off the last ball of the innings for 99 much to his delight, but the scoreboard was incorrect and Fives had reached 322 for 2 off 40 overs with Greg reaching an excellent 102 and Neil an outstanding 156 which was a pleasure to watch.

Fives then took the field and bowled well with Jack and James making the Wanstead openers play and miss regularly. With so many runs to play with I was able to experiment with the bowling and give most of the bowlers a good opportunity to bowl, Michael Knapton bowled very well and picked up 2 for 16 off his first five overs with Jack, James, Greg and Uriel all picking up a wicket each. Alan Jerrom also bowled three overs of spin and bowled well, and almost picked up a wicket having an edge dropped behind. On this subject I must mention an outstanding catch at first slip off Jack, it was really going to the right of the non-existent second slip but Neil was able to snatch it out of the air, Superman on the day. James and Michael then experimented with some spin bowling and Wanstead finished their 40 overs at 219 for 6. A good win and enjoyable game.
