Match report The matchplay side got off to an excellent start to their 2009 campaign with a convincing win over a Saffron side that possessed a number of very good players. Put into bat on a very good wicket and rapid outfield, the batsman applied themselves very well indeed. A score of 311-4 off our 40 overs was just reward as all the top order batted sensibly and in partnerships. Jake, Jack J and Jamie all got over 30, but the star of the show was Charlie Rudkin, who batted the whole innings to score a chanceless 103 not out. In reply, Saffron proved that they will be a force in the group with some solid batting and some excellent shot selection from a couple of players, but Fives were always firmly in control. Charlie followed his innings up with some excellent off spin bowling, and ended up with a 5 wicket haul. The seamers proved they are a real handful for anyone, but the consistency in terms of line and length will have to improve in future games if this side is to reach its considerable potential. Thanks to all the parents and players for coping in what was probably the coldest cricket match in history.
