Scorecard

Basildon & Pitsea v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Indoor League Over 40s on Fri 26 Nov 2004 at 21.00
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Won 78 runs

Match report F&H lost the toss and were invited to bat first. Steve Poulter and Jon Thurston started off at 10 an over by hitting the walls then running well between the wickets. Once the initiative had been gained there was no stopping. Steve Poulter was the first to retire with 27*, a reminder of those memorable days at Lords with that bandit golfer Alan Van Lint. Jon again looked in fine form and scored the next 25. Skipper Clive and Mark Wheeler then continued scoring at 12 an over by essentially running properly between the wickets. Mark retired next providing Simon with an opportunity to face a couple of balls and score his first runs of the indoor season. 132 for no wicket was the best total for many a year. A flawless performance.

In reply, Basildon batted positively from the start and attacked Derek's off spin. However, wickets continued to fall primarily through run outs including one direct hit from Steve Poulter. The innings closed with Simon bowling two batsman with yorkers in consecutive balls. It was one of those nights where everything clicked, batting, bowling and fielding.
