Match report Fives won the toss and opted to bat first on an interesting wicket with short boundaries and a very fast scoring outfield. We were 39 for 2 off 10 overs and it was left to Jacko and Rob Allum to rebuild against a decent Hadleigh bowling attack. At 137 for 2 off 32 overs we looked well set for a score of 250 before Jacko chipped one up to cover which prompted a mini collapse leaving Fives 142 for 5 off 34. Chris Apps played the anchor role as first Steve Adcock and then Brooksy swung the willow to ensure we achieved maximum batting points. We were probably 40 runs under par in hindsight. Sooty struck early with the new ball but Hadleigh's ex first teamer rebuilt as Hadleigh reached 70 for 1 with plenty of time left. However, Rob took a good catch off Soots to remove the dangerous Johnson which caused a mini collapse as Hadleigh needed 95 off the last 20 with 5 wickets in hand. We battled hard in the last hour, Pete Kilpatrick bowling very well, but Hadleigh saw it through to win by 3 wickets with a couple of overs left. It was a game which the opposition won rather than we lost although we could and should have batted a bit better from the platform we had. Fives take 11 points and remain top by 8 points with a tough encounter at third placed Chelmsford to come next week.
