South Loughton v Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Indoor League Under 11 on Fri 02 Dec 2011 at 19.15pm
Fives and Heronians Cricket Club Lost by 45 runs
Match report
We won the toss and decided to field. So far so good!
Harry and Charles were our opening bowlers. They bowled really well, pitched it up and nice and straight. Unfortunately their opening batsmen, put their front feet down the pitch and hit us for 65 off the first four overs. Shaan , Viraj and Niall all bowled well and accurately. Niall was our most economical bowler and took 1 for 12. Viraj took 2 wickets in his 3 overs for 43. Viraj took a brilliant one handed catch, off the roof netting and 5 feet from the back wall to dismiss one of their openers, who was back at the crease out of retirement – off Charles’ 3rd over. We fielded bravely and apart from their openers, in both their stints, we contained them well. Patrick was very lively behind the stumps and we conceded only one no ball and two wides – fantastic! South Loughton 148 for 4.
We had a run mountain to climb but the team were confident. Their opening batsmen were also their opening bowlers. They were better batsmen than bowlers but did enough to contain us in the first 4 overs and the mountain was looking higher. Shaan and Niall opened and withstood their opening attack but unluckily Niall was out cheaply and Patrick went in at three. Shaan batted really well and retired on 28. Patrick batted hesitantly at first but grew in confidence when batting with Charles, at 4, and scored 11 before being caught off a top edge. Charles was joined by Virag who was desperately unlucky to be out for a duck off a top edge that hit the roof and side netting before being caught. Harry joined Charles and we had a mad ten minutes with Charles flying up and down the pitch and Harry desperately trying not to get run out – it was great! Charles scored 23 and we got umpteen extras in a three over spell. Harry didn’t score many runs but we put on about 30 runs in double quick time. We managed 103 but were beaten on the night by two excellent batting performances by the South Loughton openers, who scored 45 and 35 respectively.
We will play worse than this and win!
Thanks again to all the Mums and Dads for their support.
See you all on 6 January at 5.45pm for our next match against Ilford A.
Our Man – of – the - Match was Patrick Duke who, as a late stand-in, scored 11 and had an excellent evening keeping.
