Match report Fives again lost the toss but as Old Southendians opted, ambitiously on a firm but damp track, to bat first, it made no difference. A "brighter cricket" start saw 20 runs and a wicket come from the first two overs with a sharp slip catch accepted by Tom Kerr off Matt Lewsey's second ball. Therafter, the bowling steadied considerable with repeated exhortations by the captain to "Bowl staright - they miss - you hit!" finally paying off with eight of the opposition being clean bowled. With Bob Speller failing to take a wicket for only the second time this season the spoils were shared by the seamers with Matt taking 6 for 40 to see Old Southendians dismissed for 120 in only 36 overs.

With rain threatening the pressure was on the Fives openers to finish the game quickly. The Surry father and son combination responded with a 119 partnership at a run a ball to wrap the game up by 5.22 in the 21st over.
