Match report Having lost ignominiously away to Brentwood early in the season Fives were looking for revenge at Old Chigs. Once again the opening attack of Connel and Walters performed well, beating the bat on numerous occasions without success. The introduction of 13 year old Rehan Iqbal and a change of ends for John Walters brought a wicket apiece. Brentwood made slow progress, not reaching 120 until the 41st over thanks a sustained impressive spell from John Walters who has bowled better with each match this year. At the other end the wiles of Maddo bagged another 4-for before conceding a few in the slog at the death which took Brentwood to a par score on a damp track. In reply, a confident start by the blend of maturity and youth put on 50 at a run a minute for the first wicket. This brought in Stan Foley to play his best knock of the season with 48 off 64 balls getting Fives to 142 for 2 with 11 overs remaining. At this point a serious wobble developed with three wickets going down for 3 runs in four overs. Cometh the hour, cometh the man! Ted Connell strolled out, reconoitered for three balls and then struck 24 off the next eleven balls with excellent clean driving before unluckily playing on to a yorker. This set the stage for a calm collection of the last few runs with an over to spare.
